( clementine knows georgia and iris haven't really talked since the... mirror thing that happened. she wasn't privy to their private conversation. iris didn't tell her any details, but honestly, she didn't have to. the article went up while iris' friend who later turned up, broken and messed up, was kidnapped. it was only after she read the article that she stumbled on iris, finding her taking care of someone new after she'd spent the days, taking care of barry with his broken back.

she knows iris well enough to know she would have said something. she deserved to say something given how directly someone she loved could have been affected, and she hasn't seen iris go to the after the end times since it all happened.

so desperate times call for desperate measures. she loves them both a lot, and after talking to georgia individually, she trusts georgia too to be aware, to talk it out. she knows it must be hard on them even if they don't talk about losing that friendship. it's why she comes up with a plan and sends them both a text message separately... and totally innocently.

hey i wanted to talk to you. can you meet me in the tea room at 3?

clementine will be conveniently late. )

( there is little iris won't do for clementine.

in fact, she's not sure that she could ever deny her in any way, shape, or form. that said -- at least as far as she knows -- clementine doesn't drink tea, but that doesn't make the tea room any less of a good spot to reconvene, if it's a private matter the younger girl wants to discuss.

unlike the flash, iris west tends to be punctual. so she's there at three on the dot, but that sure isn't clementine. ) Oh! ... Hi.

Iris. [Georgia doesn't smile, but that's not really unusual. Her eyebrows raise over her sunglasses. It's been a while, and George would be lying if she said she hadn't missed her. And George does make an effort not to lie.

But it's... complicated. She's never had a great model for how to deal with friends. She has Shaun, and though they certainly fight, there's never any danger that they won't make up. It allows them to be as vicious as they need to be to let off steam. She's fought with other people too, of course, since she is opinionated and stubborn and rarely backs down, but having actual friends, especially ones who live close enough for her to see every day without the shield of a computer screen, have been rare. There's Buffy. There's Mahir. There's a host of colleagues she's on good terms with. Caring about people who fall somewhere between "no loss to cut out of her life" and "tangled together so thoroughly that even death apparently couldn't keep them apart" is new and weird and she's not sure how to navigate the conflict.]

It's been a while.

( iris isn't a fan of lying, either.

she's seen firsthand the cost of secrets, and her character is one of integrity. it's why they've gotten along so well. they respect each other's opinions. they respect each other. iris is aware she wasn't at her best when she engaged with georgia over the news article: her friends tortured, the love of her life broken (literally), and cisco nowhere to be found. her emotions got the best of her, though she is positive that even now, neither woman regrets her decision. that's the kind of people they are.

georgia may not smile, but iris lets the corners of her mouth tug upward just the slightest fraction. ) I know.

( it's funny how two seemingly innocuous words can be weighted with so much meaning. iris wasn't in the right frame of mind to have this conversation before. she is now, and she isn't too proud to bridge the distance she helped create. ) Let me guess. Clementine wanted to meet you here, too?

Sneaky little bitch. [She makes it sound like the highest compliment she could pay. It was underhanded and manipulative and smart. Kid's going places.] We've been set up.

[...she doesn't have to stay. But she wouldn't be Georgia if she were willing to run away from difficult conversations. She raises her eyebrows over her sunglasses and snags a Coke, taking a seat at a table and nodding towards the other chair. She regrets how things went with them. She faced a lot of backlash over the article in question, and while it's not enough to make her regret going to print, she knows she was a little more defensive than she should have been during the aftermath. She was ready to be attacked. That worked well enough for the people whose opinions she didn't care about, but had the unfortunate side effect of also working against the people she did.

It's been long enough now, and Georgia isn't under attack from all sides. There won't be a better time to talk.]

Guess we better not let her hard work go to waste.

( georgia's own acceptance seems to come easily, and it loosens something in her chest free. iris is in touch enough with her emotions to realize that it's relief. it's a creed that has carried iris this far: family forgives, and until now, she wasn't sure if that extended to wonderland. ) Guess not.

( she lowers herself down to the chair, sliding her hands down her thighs until they clasp the knees. her expression softens, and in lieu of knowing what to say or how to begin, iris simply goes with telling georgia how she feels. ) I miss you. And sharing our writing, but mostly you. I know we both respect each other enough to be okay with disagreements, but I do regret how I handled it.

( she is usually much better at keeping a cool head, but tensions had been running so high. )

[Georgia nods slightly, about as close to giving an expression as she gets. She doesn't respond immediately, taking the time to think through her words and choose them with care.

Then she takes her sunglasses off, folding them and putting them on the table so she can look Iris in the eye. Her eyes are clear and brown, normal eyes untouched by the retinal disease the original had. Sometimes she almost misses the headaches, if having them again could mean she was herself again and could see in the dark and unsettle people with a look. Other times, like now, it's good. Being able to look someone in the eye without risking going blind. It's the little things.]

So do I. I don't regret publishing. I made the choice that seemed right to me at the time, and I stand by my decision. But I... did not behave entirely as professionally as I should have. Emotions were running high all around.

I have missed working with you.

( iris gives a similar nod in turn.

she hadn't expected georgia to regret any of her action. she sticks to her guns, regardless of the outcome, and it's something iris has admired about her. she wouldn't be that person if she was backing out on something she created with so much conviction and determination. it takes nerve to stand by something when you might end up standing alone, though iris is aware that's never the case with georgia bc shaun.

her smile widens briefly, grateful she can make eye contact now, if only to convey the true depth of meaning in her words. ) I've missed it, too. As much as I love my friends from home are here, it helped having something to remind me I'm still a reporter.

( even if her official job is worlds away. )

( clementine had set this all up in hopes that the two of them would be able to work it out. ordinarily, where she's from, it feels like even standing in the middle of everyone yelling doesn't always have a result, but this isn't home. and iris and georgia aren't like the people back there so she has high hopes, but it doesn't mean she won't show up at all (just in case, there's yelling or punching or something else that she might need to get in the middle of).

it's why she's walking into the room late but not too late. however, she can already sense the mood in the room is a very good one. it's why she has a tiny, proud smirk across her mouth as she steps inside.

she pulled it off, and yes, she knows they're both smart enough to figure this was her plan all along so she won't even bother hiding how pleased she is that it worked. )

Hey.

You two talk?

Good. That's not something anyone can take away from you.

[Iris is a reporter, like Georgia. The news is in her blood. She couldn't quit even if she wanted to.

George doesn't want to quit. Sometimes, though, she wishes she did. She and Shaun deserve the break. She just doesn't know if she can let go of everything enough to get it.

When Clementine comes in, she raises an eyebrow.]

You seem to have a bit of a double booking issue.

( iris shoots clementine a tiny smile, if only to let her know that they're not upset by her sneaky ways.

if anything, she's kind of relieved. the estrangement might've been prolonged otherwise. )

You wouldn't happen to have done that on purpose, would you?

( she's arching an eyebrow not unlike georgia.

it's the reporter brow. )

( their expressions are so similar. it's actually kind of funny. maybe she's just so pleased that it's easy to be amused. they're good friends. they need each other. clementine's seen the world tear people apart in- in really horrible ways.

sometimes it's nice to actually be able to bring people together again. she tried to a lot in her own world, but tensions were always too high.

clementine smiles. )

[George's expression is as deadpan as always, but with her sunglasses off there's no hiding how her eyes sparkle, amused. She realizes this and snags them off the table, slipping them back on.

She pushes the third chair out with her foot, a wordless invitation to sit down.]

( iris ducks her head with a small laugh. )

All right, all right. I don't know about you guys, but I could eat.

( and she has a feeling they'll be able to find something that suits each of their respective diets. yes, even if it includes grasshoppers.

this is a no judgment zone. )

( clementine smiles, and this is what she wanted- what she hoped for. they're both important to her and to each other, and it'd be nice for the three of them to get to spend time together.

she likes it more than she's willing to admit to sometimes. most of the time. )
